Screening and modelling factors that influence cigarette ash integrity based on a feature engineering approach

In order to quantitatively evaluate the ash integrity of a burning cigarette during smoking, a visual evaluation method was established. The pictures of 250 ash columns of burning cigarettes were panel tested with the established method to obtain the score of cigarette ash integrity. The correlations of cigarette ash integrity score with the tested indexes, including grey value, ash crack rate, ash shrink rate, burn line width, burn line uniformity, etc., were studied on the basis of the statistical analysis method of a feature engineering approach. The results showed that: 1) Grey value, a

Appearance quality inspection of cigarette products based on local characteristic similarity metric

Due to the poor adaptability of traditional methods in the cigarette detection task on the automatic cigarette production line, it is difficult to accurately identify whether a cigarette has defects and the types of defects; thus, a cigarette appearance defect detection method based on C-CenterNet is proposed. This detector uses keypoint estimation to locate center points and regresses all other defect properties. Firstly, Resnet50 is used as the backbone feature extraction network, and the convolutional block attention mechanism (CBAM) is introduced to enhance the network’s ability t

Release characteristics of TSNAs in aerosol from heated tobacco products at different heating temperatures

To analyze the effects of heating temperatures on the TSNAs releases in aerosol of heated tobacco products, the release characteristics of TSNAs from three heated tobacco products at different heating temperatures were studied using an in-house designed heating device. The results showed that: 1) The TPM (total particulate matter) released from the three heated tobacco products increased with the increase of heating temperature, and it was extremely significantly linearly correlated with the heating temperature. 2) With the increase of heating temperature, the releases of NNN, NNK, NAB, and

Research progress on tobacco additives in heated tobacco products

Heated tobacco products (HTPs) produce aerosol using a different mechanism than tobacco cigarettes, leading to lower emissions of some harmful substances, but also of nicotine as reported by some independent studies. Lower nicotine delivery could lead to compensatory puffing when product use does not sufficiently satisfy cravings. Thus, this three-arm crossover study was conducted to characterize the potential of two different HTPs to deliver nicotine and satisfy cravings compared with conventional cigarettes in users who had already switched to HTPs. Fifteen active, non-exclusive HTP users

Development of automatic cleaning device for second cut circular knife in ZJ118 filter cigarette maker

To remove tipping glue and printing ink residues on the second cut circular knife in ZJ118 filter cigarette maker, an automatic cleaning device for the circular knife was designed. By optimizing the structure of the second cut circular knife mechanism and adding a felt cleaning head with a screw type infeed function, the circular knife is cleaned while it is cutting into the felt cleaning head. At the same time, the felt cleaning head is lubricated to reduce the temperature of the circular knife. The designed cleaning device was tested on two ZJ118 filter cigarette makers at Shenzhen Tobacc

Sensitive detection of pesticide residue maleic hydrazide in tobacco using a fluorescent probe based on 2,7-di (4-pyridyl) acridine

A novel and sensitive fluorescent probe based on Cu2+-modulated polydihydroxyphenylalanine nanoparticles (PDOAs) has been developed for the detection of glyphosate pesticides. Compared to conventional instrumental analysis techniques, fluorometric methods have obtained good results in the field of agricultural residue detection. However, most of the fluorescent chemosensors reported still have some limitations, such as long response times, the high limit of detection, and complex synthetic procedures. In this paper, a novel and sensitive fluorescent probe based on Cu2+ modulated polydihydro

Evaluation and differential metabolite analysis of tobacco maturation based on non-targeted metabolomics

Vegetable crops possess a prominent nutri-metabolite pool that not only contributes to the crop performance in the fields, but also offers nutritional security for humans. In the pursuit of identifying, quantifying and functionally characterizing the cellular metabolome pool, biomolecule separation technologies, data acquisition platforms, chemical libraries, bioinformatics tools, databases and visualization techniques have come to play significant role. High-throughput metabolomics unravels structurally diverse nutrition-rich metabolites and their entangled interactions in vegetable plants

Safety evaluation of four herbicides applied in rice fields to succeeding tobacco

In order to evaluate the safety of four new herbicides applied in preceeding rice fields to succeeding tobacco, the effects of the four herbicides on tobacco growth were investigated through indoor pot experiments and field plot experiments. A QuEChERS pretreatment method combined with high performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS/MS) were employed to measure the residual level of quintrione in tobacco field soils. The results showed that florpyrauxifen, triafamone·tefuryltrione and mesotrione had no significant effects on the growth of tobacco. The inhibit

Identification and host survey of tobacco powdery mildew pathogen in Luoyang tobacco-growing area

Tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum L.), which creates jobs for 33 million people and contributes two trillion dollars’ tax annually, is one of the most important economic plants globally. However, tobacco is seriously threatened by numerous diseases during production. Previously, the field survey of tobacco diseases was conducted in the Guizhou and Guangxi provinces, the two main tobacco-producing areas in China. A serious leaf spot disease, with a 22% to 35% incidence, was observed in farming plants. In order to determine the causal agents, we collected the disease samples and isolated the p

A system for recovering waste heat from cooling water of technological air conditioner in cigarette factory

The automotive industry seeks innovative solutions for energy-efficient and sustainable vehicles. Conventional air-conditioning systems consume significant energy and have environmental impacts. Adsorption technology offers a promising alternative with higher energy efficiency and reduced emissions. This review analyzes recent advancements in adsorption air-conditioning for automotive applications, including material selection and system integration. It discusses the benefits, challenges, environmental impact, and waste heat recovery potential of adsorption systems. This review explores eme
