Abstract : Globularia alypum. is a plant species of the family Globulariaceae, this species is commonly a good natural source of various secondary metabolites. Therefore, the present study was conducted to determine phenolic content and antimicrobial activity of methanolic (G ME) and aqueous extracts (G AE) of aerial parts of Globularia alypum. The yields were 38%, 27.21% for methanolic extract and aqueous extract respectively. Total phenolic contents were determined using Folin-Ciocalteu reagent and found to be 35.35 mg GAE/g dry weight for aqueous extract and 86.29 mg GAE/g dry weight for methanolic extract. Flavonoids contents was determined using AlCl3 method, it were respectively 5.88 and 7.56 mg QE/ g of dry weight. The tests of the antimicrobial activity of extracts realized on five strains (2 Gram+ and 3 Gram -) showed that the aqueous and methanolic extracts exerted a high inhibition on the growth of Staphylococcus aureus with inhibition diameters ranging: 23.67 and 21 mm respectively when using at 200mg/ml. while, these extracts didn’t show any inhibitory effect on the growth of Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, Enterococcus faecalis, Klebsiella pneumoniae. As a result, Globularia alypum is suggested as a promising and effective therapeutic medicinal plant for the treatment of several diseases.
