Abstract :
The storage period has a distinct and effective effect on field emergence and the plant growth different stages, which is reflected in the grain yield and its quality, the difference in growth stages also makes its effect on the environment different. The appropriate storage process will achieve the best benefit from the nutritional elements and roots appropriate spread, which gives the seedling emergence best rates, obtaining good growth for the crop later, unlike extending the storage period, considering that maize is the least storable of the cereal grains due to its high content of fats and carbohydrates and low nitrogen levels. The present study aimed to evaluate the maize varieties Maha, Sarah and Fajr in integration with the storage years of one year, two years, three years and four years, the study was conducted for the year 2023-2024, in Babil city, Iraq. The randomized block design RCBD was used with three replicates. The results showed that the MA maize cultivar was significantly better than the other two varieties, SA and FA. Field emergence ratio 81.41%, plant height 155.38 cm, seeds number in ear 633.4grain.cob-1, 500 grains weight 130.28 g and total seed yield 5.846 t.ha-1. The SA cultivar outperformed in the speed of emergence trait by 23.83%, and the FA cultivar outperformed the chlorophyll ratio trait by 43.92%. The 1Y storage period also significantly outperformed the other storage years 2Y,3Y and 4Y, in all the characteristics covered by this study.
