Abstract : The Brassicaceae, or Cruciferae, is a family of plants that includes a large number of food crops (roots and leafy vegetables) highly appreciated by consumers around the world. Many of them, such as turnips and cabbages, are used in human diet for their health benefits and great economic interest. Other less known species, particularly local cultivars, could also be a source of rich bioactive compounds. With this in mind, a study of the bioactive compounds contained in an indigenous cultivar, grown exclusively in three regions of Algeria, And known by the vernacular name "Left Saidi", was conducted. The results of the analysis of biological metabolites from this vegetable indicate that it presents a potential source of active compounds of the antilitheasic type. The methanolic extract of the rhizome, the edible part of this vegetable, yielded total phenol contents of 32.50 ± 4.01629 µg EAG/mg extract and, in flavonoids, 17.5807 ± 0.769306 µg EQ /mg extract. Flavonoids account for more than 50% of polyphenols. Evaluation of antioxidant power showed modest efficacy (IC50 = 84.06 ± 2.68 mg/ml), but the results reveal that the methanolic extract of Brassica spp. has a remarkable in vitro inhibitory efficacy against oxalocalcic crystallization, at 99% compared with the control (95%).
