Abstract :
This study aimed to investigate the phenolic content and antioxidant properties of Deverra scoparia Coss. et Dur., a plant native to the southern region of Algeria. Acetone, hexane, and methanol extracts were analyzed for their total polyphenol and flavonoid content, as well as their antioxidant activities, using DPPH radical scavenging, iron ion chelation, and β-carotene oxidation inhibition assays. The results indicated that the methanolic extract contained the highest levels of total polyphenols, while the acetone extract was richest in flavonoids. Antioxidant activity assessments showed that both methanolic and acetone extracts exhibited the strongest activity across all methods tested. These findings suggest that Deverra scoparia is a valuable natural source of polyphenols with potent antioxidant properties, potentially mitigating the risks of diseases linked to oxidative stress.
