Abstract : The durian industry in Malaysia, as a major global producer and exporter of the "King of Fruits," plays a crucial role in local and international agriculture. However, it faces challenges from climate change and the need for sustainable agricultural practices to remain competitive. The review investigates how sustainable farming practices and technological innovations, such as AI and genetic advancements, can help mitigate the impacts of climate change and enhance productivity within the durian sector. It examines the role of these innovations in crop yield improvement, disease management, and postharvest handling, while also addressing the growing global demand, particularly from China, and the increasing health benefits associated with durian consumption. The review integrates insights from eco-friendly farming practices, advancements in AI, and genetic engineering, all aimed at improving durian production. It also explores market trends, consumer preferences, and the nutritional benefits of durian, focusing on how sustainability and technological innovations intersect to drive growth. A systematic review methodology was applied to evaluate studies related to sustainability, technological advancements, and health benefits in the durian industry. Recent studies in 2024 were reviewed, focusing on durian agriculture, technological innovations, market dynamics, and health benefits, with a primary focus on Malaysia, along with insights from Southeast Asia. The review process involved extensive literature searches, screening, and quality assessments to ensure the inclusion of high-quality studies. PRISMA flowchart details sustainable practices and AI innovations in Musang King durian market, summarizing data. Data extraction concentrated on key themes such as sustainability, technological advancements, health benefits, and market dynamics, offering a comprehensive understanding of the industry's trends and challenges. Cross-study comparisons and narrative synthesis allowed for a deeper insight into the durian market’s current state and future directions. The novelty of the review lies in its holistic synthesis of recent research, addressing sustainability and market dynamics in the context of the durian industry. It offers practical insights for stakeholders to navigate challenges related to climate change, economics, and market demand while ensuring the industry’s sustainable growth. Findings highlight that AI-driven pest control and bioengineering can increase climate resilience and improve crop quality, contributing to global sustainability goals. While the durian sector is poised for growth through these innovations, barriers such as high adoption costs, knowledge gaps, and infrastructure challenges must be addressed. Future research should focus on overcoming these barriers through policy, capacity building, and technology transfer initiatives to ensure the sustainable development of the durian industry.
